About
My name is Jochen Heinzmann
Woodworking has always been my passion, deeply influenced by my upbringing in a second-generation joinery business, where I learned to see the endless creative possibilities of timber. In 2013, I left my engineering career to start Tinkermade, transforming my garage in Murrumbateman, just outside Canberra, into a workshop. My mission is to fuse traditional woodworking craftsmanship with modern design, creating unique pieces that enhance today’s living spaces. I’m always looking for fresh, innovative approaches—whether it’s a new way a box opens or a distinct joint technique. Inspired by Dieter Rams and his "Less but Better" philosophy, I focus on simple, purposeful design. I also draw inspiration from architecture, typography, and furniture and product design.
