Papillon Lounge Chair
Modernist Design Roots
The Papillon chair is an extension of the Papillon lounge range, designed in response to a client brief for seating in a modernist house in Canberra. The brief called for a lounge that reflected the iconic furniture designs of the last century. With an open frame and segmented seat and back, the design offers a sense of lightness and articulation, captured in the chair's name.
Minimalist Form Inspired by Classic Icons
The chair’s shell-and-cushion design takes inspiration from the Eames lounge chair but is simplified with a focus on essential function. Timber ribs replace structural metal components, and the cushions have been firmed up to offer a plump, wrinkle-free surface. This creates a modern look with timeless appeal.
Comfort and Scandinavian Elegance
Designed for relaxation, the seat has a gentle gradient that draws you into a comfortable seating position. The looped armrests and solid timber frame, influenced by midcentury Scandinavian design, offer a warm, tactile alternative to metal, making the chair visually inviting and approachable.
Dimensions
With the generous 80cm cushions the chair offers ample space for all occupants. The chair is approximately 92cm wide and 80cm tall.
